The Panguitch wrestlers pose with their trophy, holding up a number five on their fingers for the 5th year in a row winning the championship.

State wrestling for 1A and 2A schools was held at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield Friday and Saturday, February 9-10, 2024.

Most wrestling matches are divided into three, two-minute periods. But those two minutes can seem like an eternity. Wrestling requires a tremendous amount of coordination and stamina.

The Panguitch boys wrestling team had that stamina. The team was able to take home 1st place for the 5th year in a row! With many of their wrestlers holding onto that first place spot from divisionals, Panguitch’s team maxed out at 199 points total.

Injuries early in the season prevented Tanner and Jackson from wrestling much of the year. The excitement grew at state with each match as nervous parents and fans watched boy after boy chalk up wins and move on to the championship rounds. Some matches were nail biters but in the end Panguitch claimed the victory again.

As for the girls, Panguitch’s Alexa Marshall and Kieran Mooney made Panguitch history and each placed 1st in their weight categories as well. Their wins put them in 6th place in the lineup of 1A and 2A schools for girls wrestling.
