Piute's choir poses with their jester and tradition yule feast food.

Some of Piute High School’s biggest attractions are their extracurricular activities. Piute is known for always having a good show, whether it is at a sports game, club event, a service project or anything in between. Piute is filled with talented individuals with inspiring dreams and work ethics. In December Piute high’s choir put on their annual Christmas concert.

Every year music teacher Tyrel Ivie puts together a stupendous Christmas concert for the choir kids to perform in and for the community to watch. The concert varies with a different theme each year. Sometimes the theme isn’t even Christmas! This year the theme was a Yule Feast. The Yule Feast was a collaboration between the choir students, the dance company and the food classes.

The Feast took place in the Junction Community Center on December 12 and 13.

A medieval century tone was set for both nights as there was a jester who led the audience through the concert. Josephine Bowles, a 7th grader from Piute High school was the jester on December 12. Josie Davis, another 7th grader, was the jester on December 13. They both did a spectacular performance with their own and different take on being a jester. They kept the crowd entertained in between each song from the choir.

Another party to be involved in the Yule Feast was Piute’s food classes. The Culinary Arts class helped prepare some of the food served such as cookies, cheesy potatoes, shredded chicken, rolls, and fruit salad. Some of the Food class and Culinary Arts class students helped serve the food the night of the concerts.

At every winter performance, Tyrel Ivie collaborates with Piute’s dance company on at least one of the songs in the concert. The dance company consists of seven girls. They range from juniors to sophomores. In this year’s Yule Feast they danced twice: once alone and once with the choir. Piute dance always gives the crowd a wonderful performance that ties into the choir’s concert.

Besides all the other contributors in the concert, Mr. Ivie wasn’t done sharing the spotlight. Emma Wilde, a member of the choir, had her time in the spotlight with her solo on the flute and duet with the choir. Shauna Bagley, Piute’s principal, and her husband were crowned the King and Queen of the Yule Feast on the Monday performance. Superintendent Koby Willis and his wife Aleshea were crowned King and Queen on the Tuesday performance.

The choir concert was a smashing success. Tyrel Ivie worked hard to collaborate with many different clubs and classes and still pulled off a beautiful choir concert with eight songs. The concert was filled with music, laughter, food and smiles from everyone in the room. The Yule Feast wasn’t disappointing and was one to remember. Parents, faculty and community members can’t wait to see what Piute High’s choir will do next, especially as their well-known and loved rock concert is just around the corner.
