Boys Basketball

The Panguitch and Piute boys met once again at state in winter 2022-2023, but unfortunately for the T-Birds, the Bobcats were able to defend their place as number one. This is part of a story of quite the rivalry between these two schools over the past couple years.

The championship game ended at 58-46: Panguitch was victorious! Tucker Chappell led the team’s scoring with 12 points, and Spencer Talbot led in rebounds with 10.

Girls Basketball

The Winter 2022-2023 Girls Basketball title went to the Wayne Badgers for the first time since 2004.

Wayne’s Lady Badgers certainly proved themselves with both a region and a state win this year! In number 4 seed, the girls were able to beat number 1 seed Rich the day before to get into the state tournament with Tabiona.

AnDee VanDyke, a senior, scored 12 points, 6 of which were 3 pointers.

Wrestling

Anyone who has ever been to the Sevier Valley Center knows the sights, sounds and smells of the Richfield arena, and 1A state wrestling was no different. There were many exciting matches, keeping fans on the edges of their seats the whole time.

Panguitch had six wrestlers who wrestled in the finals. Five of them were able to bring home 1st place. The whole team overall took their 4th consecutive win. And Panguitch’s small girls wrestling team was able to do very well too.

In addition to their first place wins, Cael Houston (Panguitch) and McKray Gayler (Piute) each won Outstanding Wrestler awards.
