With five weeks in the books here at Panguitch High School, there has been a lot of success throughout not only the athletic events but also on an academic level.

This year the focus has been on effort = success. Teachers and students are really digging deep to find out what it takes to be successful, and the results are simple: effort.

With both volleyball and baseball over halfway through the season, both are number one in the state with a lot of success. Baseball has lost just one game in a nail-biter to Bryce Valley, but when it came down to it, Panguitch got the last laugh as of right now.

As for the volleyball team, they have been faced with one of the toughest schedules that we have seen in a long time. They played with the best of them as they went to St. George to play in the Dixie tournament which consisted of classifications 2-5A.

The new math teacher Mr. Owens has shown that in just the first three weeks of school, he is going to be an asset to the student body and faculty. Kids say he has taught them how to do math in ways that they understand.

The cross-country team has also had a lot of success winning the first meet of the season. Danny Yardley is leading their team with his positive energy as they approach the state meet in late October.

All of the athletic programs are hoping to carry the momentum from very successful seasons into October when all 3 teams will go all out in hopes to bring home 3 state titles in one month.

9/11 was remembered by Panguitch High School through service. The school went down to the Triple C and cleaned up trash, along with cleaning the inside of the building. Mr. Torgerson, the principal here at Panguitch High School says, “We want to remember those who died on 9/11, and we are going to do that by doing some service for the town that we live in. We want to make the place around us a great place to live.”

Another thing that we are focusing on this year is to focus on the things that you can do rather than the things that you can’t do. This requires us to put all of the negative thoughts away and think about the things that we are capable of doing. In other words, stop dwelling on the problems and adversity that come into your life; find a solution and a positive way around it. There is a positive thing in everything — you just have to look for it.

With that being said, I think it is fair to say that it has been a pretty successful start to the school year at Panguitch High. Making the school a better place is controlled by your attitude and your effort. Those two things can lead to success in anything you do in life, not just school.
