Moqui Motor Madness Car Show Rolls In to Escalante

The Moqui Motor Madness Car Show, one of many popular summer car shows in Southern Utah, rolled into Escalante on August 16 and 17.

After cruising down Main the previous day, numerous cars owned by visitors, Escalante residents, and other locals along the Byway showed off their charm at Escalante park on the cloudy Saturday.

The cars competed for five awards recognizing owners’ hard work and care. Winners of the 2024 Moqui Motor Madness Car Show were as follows:

  • Mayor’s Choice: Jerry Taylor, 1975 GMC pickup
  • Work in Progress: Jaquel Brooks, 1938 Plymouth coupe
  • People’s Choice: Ian Nelson, 1963 Buick Electra
  • Rodder’s Choice: Dustin and Sonja Mitchell, 1932 Ford coupe
  • Best in Show: Gene Burson, 1956 custom modified Chevy truck

Moqui Motor Madness has been around since 2016, and organizers have held a show every year since, making this the 9th year.

Escalante took advantage of the fun weekend to slip in a few more summer activities. A soap box derby by the Escalante Prevention Coalition, a drive-in-movie in the Escalante High School parking lot, and lots of yummy concessions and vendors made the weekend complete. The best part was all the happy people sharing a passion for cars.
