A kid's drawing of about 50 stars form a square shape in the middle of two tall, unique Christmas trees.

“A Unique Christmas” is the fifth of eight Christmas articles received from Wayne High School students. Three of them were published in The Byway’s most recent December print paper. All will be featured online.

What is Christmas all about? Christmas is a wonderful time of the year. It’s a time where we can give back to others and be around friends and family we love and care about. It is more than just presents and Santa with his reindeer. Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. My family helps celebrate and remember that by taking time on Christmas Eve to remember Christ’s birth and having a Jerusalem dinner. We will eat the food that they would have eaten and talk about our Savior. Sometimes my grandparents will come down and stay and spend Christmas with us. Also on Christmas Eve, we will open our family pajamas. The next morning we are not allowed to open any presents until my parents wake up. We will then have a big Christmas breakfast. Sometimes a couple of days before Christmas we will go around Christmas caroling to all the people in Hanksville. This involves my Aunt, my grandma, cousin, brother. This is a fun heartwarming experience that gets me thinking about the service I do for others. Christmas is also about giving back to people in need and showing love and gratitude.

I love Christmas. It is one of my favorite holidays. I love being around people. I love being able to spread kindness. I love being able to have fun and laugh with my family. We always watch a ton of Christmas movies and sit in the living room with different appetizers and popcorn. We will also play tons of board games. We love to just spend time with each other. I love being able to sleep in as late as I want and not have to worry about anything except being with my family. I love getting gifts for the people I love and care about. It’s a way I express my gratitude, and show that I care about people. We normally do a white elephant where we draw a name and get a gift for the person/family. It is really fun and has been a tradition of ours. We also have a December 1st party. This is mainly for the little kids, but we all get together, so it ends up being pretty fun. The party has a bunch of games and activities the little kids can do. We will have a theme that goes along with a movie that they can watch. This is super fun and normally ties into a lesson about how Christmas is more than just getting presents.

Christmas means a lot and is a super fun holiday. The time I spend with your family and friends are the times I remember most. I am so grateful that I am able to have a family where we can make good memories and have traditions that I can carry on down to my family when I get older. I love that my family takes the time to talk about the true meaning of Christmas and how it doesn’t matter how good of a gift I get as long as it is the thought that counts.
