It has been snowing all over Garfield County for the past couple of weeks. Because of that, it might be fun to come up with some ideas of what we could do with this winter wonderland.

Simple Activities Close to Home

First thing we can do with the snow is shovel it off the walkways. This probably sounds like the opposite of fun, but it doesn’t have to be. You can invite friends and family over and easily make a game out of it. And while you are out and about it might be a good time to think of others who might appreciate some help with shoveling.

After you’ve got your sidewalk all cleared off, you might notice that there are now convenient piles of snow on the sides that you can then use to pack into snowballs or a snow fort. My personal favorite is building snowmen. I haven’t had any snowmen come to life so far — you would not believe how hard it is to find a magic hat these days!

Something to note is that, there are different types of snow and that some just aren’t snowball material. In that event, or if you’re in the mood for something different, sledding and snow tubing is also not a bad way to spend the day. The only trick is finding a good, mostly-smooth hill.

Snow Fun Elsewhere

Another option on that list is skiing and snowboarding. The best place in Southern Utah for these two activities is at Brian Head Ski Resort. The ski lifts make skiing so much easier than jogging up the hill, and they have ski lessons for those who are new at it. Skiing and snowboarding makes the perfect day outing with friends and family.

If you are the fishing type, ice fishing this time of year is quite common and highly recommended. I had a friend give us a couple of fish a few days ago, and it was probably some of the best fish I have ever had.

If you’re the roller skating type, just know ice skating and roller skating do not cross over very well. I learned that one the hard way. Since then, however, I’ve gone to Bryce’s ice rink almost every year and it’s on my must-do list.

The last thing I want to recommend is watching the snowfall from the window while drinking hot chocolate, because sometimes it is nice to admire the scenery from afar especially after a long day of fun.
