As the cold weather sneaks in, doors for adventure open. Warm clothes, hot chocolate and snowy episodes all come along with the unfortunate weather. While being cold isn’t always the most enjoyable thing, there are many benefits to the approaching winter.

One of the most prominent things that winter brings is a fan favorite holiday, Christmas. The joyful time brings contagious cheer and happiness. Christmas movies, songs and decorations come out and change that cold weather into a warm cozy feeling. Hot chocolate with marshmallows, candy canes and any type of cookies also help bring that pre-Christmas spirit.

Something else to keep occupied and prepared for the weather change is warm clothes. Scarves, gloves and puffy coats are the way to go. Take that hot chocolate made earlier and you’ve got an instant hand and soul warmer.

When the snow does come, before it melts, enjoy the sparkling white powder. Play in the snow. Go sledding, make snow angels, make a snowman or have a snowball fight. The snow does not stick forever, so yes, even you adults, play in the snow for just a little bit. Some activities for an older group are to go ice-skating, snowmobiling or skiing/snowboarding.

Winter, for some, is the downtime. It’s a time for relaxation and preparation for the new coming spring. Just by looking at a picture of snow falling during the night, with the only light being a lamp post, a peaceful feeling arises. While there is so much chaos going on around, mother nature once again shows one of her beautiful creations.

Like the prominent poet Anne Bradstreet said, “If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”
