Each year Panguitch High School students look forward to participating in all of the events that take place during Homecoming Week. This year the fun included the following events:
- Twin Day – come to school “twinning” with someone else.
- Rival Day – wear your rival’s colors to school.
- Throwback Day – wear your best PHS throwback attire.
- Spirit Day – wear your best PHS school spirit attire.
- Panguitch girls basketball team cheers & dances at the boys’ home basketball game.
- Panguitch cheerleaders perform a dance with the wrestling team at the home dual.
- PHS Alumni Assembly.
- Homecoming Dance.
Among the events of the week, there are two more that tend to be the most popular among the students: the Homecoming Pageant and “Mr. PHS.”
Homecoming Pageant
This year I had the opportunity to MC, or host, the Homecoming Pageant as the 2022 Homecoming Queen. This was such a fun and rewarding opportunity not only because of the role I played, but because I got to practice and work alongside many talented girls.
Under the direction of Jolann Black and Kelci Johnson, who are the PHS cheer coaches, a beautiful program was put together to spotlight eight of Panguitch High School’s very own. A diverse set of talents were performed including dance, vocal/musical solos, and piano solos — each one unique in its own way. The results of the pageant were as follows:
Queen: Shelby Frandsen (vocal/musical solo).
First Attendant: Ryley Veater (dance solo).
Second Attendant: Adelaide Englestead (piano solo).
Miss Congeniality: Josslyn Griffin (dance solo).
‘Mr. PHS’
The “Mr. PHS” competition was far less serious. Boys in the school now took the stage — some with much preparation and some with none at all. With no judges present, the royalty was decided simply by who received the loudest cheers from the crowd. The royalty for this year was as follows:
Mr. PHS: JJ Osburn
First Attendant: Cael Houston
Second Attendant: Tucker Chappell
Mr. Congeniality: Jaren Henrie
Not only is Homecoming Week one of the most fun weeks of the school year, but it is one that brings students together and unites them as a school. Whether it be on stage, on a mat, or on the court, events like such are so important to small-town schools like ours.
