Piute FBLA Teaches Community about Water Conservation

Piute High School has many clubs and extracurricular activities that help not only the students, but the community in general. Every year Piute’s FBLA chapter does a community service project. This year the FBLA chapter decided to do a project that brings awareness to water conservation in Piute County.

Conserving Water through 2 Projects

Bringing awareness to the drought and conservation of water is the topic for the Piute FBLA chapter’s “Partnership with Business,” and “Community Service” projects. Kamryn Gayler, a sophomore; Ainsley Talbot, a junior; and Daxon Morrill, a senior, are over the Partnership with Business project. They titled their project, “Stop the Drop.” The Community Service project, which is run by Tera Morgan, a senior; Cooper Fautin, a senior; and Titan King, a senior, is named, “Every Drop Counts.” Between the two projects, this group of teenagers has worked hard in bringing awareness to the community about the drought that is currently happening in Piute County.

Getting the Community Involved

The group of students has gone to Oscarson and Circleville elementary schools as well as Piute High School, and they have made the students more aware about the drought and the importance of saving our water. For the elementary schools, the six FBLA members gave a short presentation about water conservation and gave out a packet and pledge for the children to take home so the whole family could learn.

Along with the presentation the two groups told the students from the high school and elementary schools about an art contest. The art contest also follows the theme of water conservation. Students were asked to make a drawing that had to do with saving water.

Piute FBLA has also partnered with the Piute County Commission. The chapter presented in front of the commissioners in mid-November. Commissioners have said that they will help promote any advertisements about conserving water and standing behind Piute’s FBLA chapter in this project. They also agreed to help in any thing that comes along during the project.

Trevor Barnson, who is the Piute County Farm Bureau president, also partnered up with the FBLA chapter. Barnson donated money that will go to the winners of the art contest. He will also be coming to Piute High and talking to the FBLA chapter about the importance of water conservation in the small farming community that Piute County members call home.

Teaching Why Water Conservation Is Important

Tera Morgan, the president of the Piute FBLA chapter states, “Our project is about teaching the communities and students in Piute County about water conservation. We live in a small community and our water is crucial, especially during this drought year. It is important for all to know about it so we can keep the little water we have.”

Piute’s FBLA chapter hopes that by bringing more attention to the drought and conserving water, they will help the community join together in saving the precious water. While this might be one small task, it is one big step in the right direction to preserving water for generations to come.
