A “wet microburst,” previously misidentified as a tornado, ripped through Cannonville at about 3:25 p.m. Sunday, August 21. At 3:45, the storm was reported to the sheriff’s office for tearing the roof off a local trailer home.
The microburst, or a burst of intense wind and rain, included wind speeds of up to 60 mph. It lasted less than an hour, but it was enough time to do some hefty damage to this one young man’s house.
Luckily nobody was injured — and shortly after the incident, over 40 volunteers from Church and community showed up to help. The house was still considered livable, and volunteers were quick to offer enough help to clean up the broken roof.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s office also reported in a news release that there was some flooding in the area including Henrieville (again), causing some minor damage.
