The 4K for Cancer Ride is a team of 36 runners and bike riders dedicated to raising funds and awareness for young adults battling cancer. Every year, they ride or run across the country from Baltimore to San Francisco. And for the first time since 2019, they will be coming through Bryce!
4K for Cancer originally began in 2001. They started as a group of undergraduate students who combined their dream of riding across the country with their desire to fight cancer. They started promoting the ride to young people whose families had been affected by cancer. Since then, they have raised over $7 million for cancer patients.
This year, the riders left Baltimore on June 5, and the runners left on June 26. Both will make their way toward Bryce and sleep here for the night.
Escalante has been kind enough to host the group for one night. They will arrive the afternoon of July 23. They will be given a pizza dinner and a potluck at Escalante Outfitters. The runners and riders will sleep and shower at Escalante High School that night.
They will get up again for an early start the next morning. Before the group heads off, they will be given a potluck breakfast by the Circle D employees at 7 a.m. on the 24th at the city park pavilion.
The 4K Ride loves community involvement from the places they run through. They would love local residents to greet them as they head toward San Francisco.
We’re excited to see the 4K Ride again and hope we will be able to continue to host them in coming years. Wish them luck!
