Panguitch FCCLA Competes at State Leadership Conference

This is an old news article from a previous year. The results in this article are from FCCLA’s 2022 state leadership conference. To read the article from 2024, go to State FCCLA Results 2024.

Fourteen FCCLA students from Panguitch High School attended and competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events at the FCCLA (Family Career & Community Leaders of America) State Leadership Competition held on March 22 & 23 at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah.

There are more than 30 STAR events for students to choose to compete in, all of which recognize participants who demonstrate their knowledge, skills and abilities to actively identify an issue concerning families, careers, or communities, research the topic and develop and implement a project to advocate for positive change.

STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities: Cooperative — team work to accomplish specific goals; Individualized — an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals; and Competitive — individual or team performance is measured by an established set of criteria.

The following students planned, carried out and presented STAR Event Service projects at Level 2: Kenli H., Tylee B., and Samantha P. competed as a team in Chapter Service Display (1st place category winners). Hailey Y. and Brayli F. competed as a team in Chapter Service Portfolio (1st place category winners). Jaren H. competed in Teach and Train (1st place category winner). Tyler C. and Madelyn F. competed as a team in Focus on Children (2nd place category winners), and Jocelyn C. competed in Career Investigation (3rd place category winner).

Lexie P. and Adelaide E. competed as a team in Interpersonal Communications at Level 3 (3rd place winners) and Jaci D. and Janessa H. competed as a team in Chapter Service Display at Level 3.

First and second place state winners qualify to compete at the National FCCLA Leadership Convention, which is held from June 28 to July 4 in San Diego, California. Panguitch High School will have eight students attending and competing at Nationals: Kenli, Tylee, Samantha, Hailey, Brayli, Jaren, Madelyn, and Tyler. They are excited to represent Panguitch High School, Garfield County, and the State of Utah.

FCCLA’s mission is, “To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.”

Congratulations to all the students! You are our future leaders and you will succeed!
