New State Bank of Southern Utah CEO: Trevor Andersen

State Bank of Southern Utah, based in Cedar City, recently announced the appointment of a new president and CEO, Trevor C. Andersen, as current President Eric Schmutz retires.

Trevor Andersen has been with SBSU for over 26 years, most recently as chief lending officer.

Trevor has big shoes to fill, but the bank’s board of directors is confident he will be able to step into the role with the same commitment exemplified by its previous CEO. “We are excited to name Trevor Andersen as the new CEO of State Bank,” said Joe Burgess, Chairman of the Board, in a press release. “Trevor has a visionary approach to leadership and is well-equipped to navigate the challenges and opportunities of modern banking.”

Trevor will work closely with Eric Schmutz until January, when the latter retires.

Eric Schmutz served SBSU for nearly 40 years and has served as its president and CEO for the past 15. A few months ago, the Utah Bankers Association presented him with the 2024 Distinguished Banker Award at their convention. In addition to his position at SBSU, he is known as the voice of Cedar High football and basketball, and a beloved bishop, stake president, and area seventy for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Under Eric, SBSU has seen tremendous growth. And he is confident Trevor will be able to continue that.

“I started working for the bank in 1982 as a teller,” said Eric. “At that time, we had 3 banking offices and $41 Million in assets. I’ve been fortunate to witness State Bank’s growth, now with 17 branches and over $2.5 Billion in assets. The bank is well-positioned, and I’m excited to pass the reins to Trevor to continue its growth.”

The community-focused bank has three locations along the Byway: in Circleville, Tropic, and Escalante. The most recent among these to open was the Escalante branch, which the bank opened after renovating an old Wells Fargo building in March of 2020.
