Piute’s 2024 Homecoming Week

As the snow continues to fall, January progresses on. Within the first month of the year basketball, wrestling, cheer and many other extracurricular activities going on, it is the perfect time for Homecoming week. Piute’s 2024 Homecoming took place January 11-18. Assemblies, games, dancing and dress-up days all filled the halls and rooms of Piute High School. Below will be a look into what Piute does to celebrate Homecoming week.

Thursday the 11th

While Homecoming is mostly known to make its appearance during football season, Piute has their Homecoming during basketball and wrestling season. Piute’s student council plans the Homecoming week so there is a boys and girls basketball game and wrestling match within the celebratory week. The boys started off the week on Thursday with a basketball game. Throwback Spirit Day was the way to dress up at school and at the game.

During school hours, the Homecoming assembly was held. Kinley Shakespear and Kel Blood, Makayla Miramontes and Kade Severe, Becky King and Josh Bowles, Katie Snyder and Jaxon Westwood, Kole Westwood and Ainsley Talbot were the nominations for Homecoming court. Every year each couple performs a lip sync dance that they must choreograph. This year the couple’s song had to include the word “baby” in it. Other activities the couples had to do wer decorate a cake (they had four minutes together to decorate), the boys changed diapers, and the girls shaved a balloon. Finally the contestants had to answer some trivia questions.

After school got out, the basketball game commenced. The boys basketball team played against Mt. Vernon, and won with a score of 84 to 42. While the boys basketball played, the girls basketball team took the place of the cheerleaders. The girls basketball team also performed a short dance during halftime. After the girls team’s performance, Piute’s 2024 Homecoming royalty was announced. Makayla Miramontes and Kole Westwood were king and queen, Kade Severe and Kinley Shakespear were 1st attendants, and Katie Snyder and Jaxon Westwood were 2nd attendants.

Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th

Students got a little break over the weekend, but that didn’t mean Homecoming was over. The party resumed on Monday. While there weren’t any games on Monday or Tuesday, that didn’t mean there weren’t activities to do. On Monday students got to dress up in their rival’s clothes. Tuesday marked the “Iconic Duo Day.” Many students dressed as their favorite duo.

Wednesday the 17th

Things picked back up on Wednesday as there was a wrestling dual against Wayne. This dual was actually the last home wrestling dual for Piute. So Piute celebrated their four seniors. The dress-up theme for Wednesday was class colors. Seniors came dressed in pink, juniors in black, sophomores in orange, freshman in blue, eighth grade in red and seventh grade in purple.

Thursday the 18th

On the last day of Homecoming week, the dress-up day was themed Dress like Your Dad. Many students took this challenge and showed up like little miniatures of their fathers. Not only did students get to dress up as their dads at school, but they showed up to the girls basketball game like that as well. The girls basketball team played against Bryce Valley and won 51 to 40. At this game, boys from 9th to 12th grade got the opportunity to participate in the famous Thunderman dance. The boys danced at halftime and then once again took the cheerleaders’ place in keeping the crowd involved. After the girls game, the Homecoming dance started at 9:00 p.m. in the Piute High School commons. Overall Piute’s 2024 Homecoming week was a success and brought some school spirit in the halls.
