Garfield County Fair Board held their planning meeting for this year’s fair at Ruby’s Inn last week. The fair board discussed changes and plans for an exciting fair that will be held August 5th-12th.
The theme for this year’s fair is SEW IT, GROW IT, SHOW IT. A contest is currently being held for students to design the cover for the fair book. Students throughout the county are invited to provide an original drawing depicting the theme. The winner will receive $100.00 and their drawing will be printed on the front cover of the fair book. Runners up will receive $25.00 each for grades K-2 and 3-5; grades 6-8 and 9-12 will receive $50.00.
The fair will include many of the old favorites such as the Queen Contest, livestock, indoor exhibits, inflatables, bingo, fish grab, rodeo, horse fun day, Fair and Rodeo Queen Contest, Lego Contest and Ping Pong Ball drop.
Last year we added a Senior Citizens luncheon along with our Bingo which proved very popular. That event will also include a live band playing 50s music. It will be held Thursday at noon.
Some of the changes discussed were schedule changes that included new times for the horseshoe tournament. It will be moved from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Another big change is the talent show which will begin at 6:30 p.m. after the Commissioners’ Dinner is held at 5:30. We will also have our prize drawings during the talent show.
Last year we also added the popular Ranch Sorting and it will continue this year.
We will conclude the fair with our traditional Summer Bash Dance for all of the family starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.
Be sure to start getting your exhibits ready to show as we will have some great prizes this year. Begin practicing for the talent show as well as preparing your animals and pets. Make something great and tasty to enter in the exhibits. Let’s have the greatest fair ever in Garfield County!
Can’t wait for the fair. Remember SEW IT, GROW IT, SHOW IT.
