Monday News Plonk: Cheerleading Comp and Inauguration Day

Hello Byway readers, and happy Martin Luther King Jr./Inauguration Day! Here are some significant events happening this week:

  • Monday, January 20 — Inauguration Day for President Donald J. Trump. Watch the inaugural events at c-span.org. It is also Bryce Valley’s Homecoming Queen Pageant at 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, January 21 — Utah legislature begins its general session. The session will go until March 7.
  • Wednesday, January 22 — State cheerleading competition at Utah Valley University at 2:00 p.m. Read about region cheer here.
  • Saturday, January 25 — Boys region wrestling all day at Monticello High School for Panguitch, Bryce Valley, and Wayne; and Piute High School for Piute and Escalante. It is also the UFO Quilt Retreat in Panguitch.

Weather: 

The National Weather Service shows mostly clear and sunny weather today at Bryce Canyon Airport with a high near 18 degrees Fahrenheit, and a low of -2. The day is also forecast to be blustery and extra chilly with a north wind around 22 miles per hour and wind chill values at -7. Into the night predicted wind chill gets as low as -14 degrees.

Winds continue into Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday gusts could get as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday through the rest of the week, temperatures should stay above zero, peaking near 44 degrees on Friday. Saturday and Sunday there is a chance of snow.
