With school barely begun and Wayne’s high school still unfinished, the prom, held September 21, could easily have snuck up on this year’s juniors. Amazingly, they pulled together a beautiful venue, a great floor show, and a fun night “on cloud nine” hanging out with their class.
Many proms, especially those along the Byway, will take place during the spring in a high school gym transformed for the formal occasion. In charge of putting on Wayne’s early-year prom, its chairman, Macey Jackson, chose to take it to a different location. Wayne’s prom gowns sparkled this year against the backdrop of red stone on a cool outdoor night at the Cougar Ridge Pavilion. Only one other class has held prom at the Torrey location before, Macey explained.
Pulling prom together was, of course, a time crunch, but with so many people there to help, you never would have known it.
“It was actually pretty smooth. We were having a few meetings about prom before school actually started so that was helpful,” said Macey, “and we had a lot of amazing help!”
The junior advisors were Lori Chappell, Sharron Durfey, and Stephanie Williams. Tasha Jackson and Kallie Brian choreographed their floor show, and Hannah Burdett did the photography.
Grinning in the middle of it all were Wayne’s prom queen and king, Timber Wood and Miles Hinkle.
“I would say that my personal favorite part of prom was just being there and being able to be with my class and just hangout,” said Macey. “I thought that it turned out so well and it looked super well!”
