Garfield School District Votes to Approve Four-Day School Week

On Thursday, October 17, the Garfield School Board voted, unanimously, to proceed with the plan to petition the state to grant the district a four-day school week beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.

Previously, the board planned to vote on the measure in November, but after the results of the survey yielded a strong majority (87%) of participants were in favor of the change, the board took the opportunity to move forward early.

The Utah State Board of Education will ultimately need to grant a waiver to the district for the change, and the Garfield District office now has a little extra time to prepare to make the case to the state.

As with the school districts in Piute and Wayne counties, which moved to a four-day school week last year and this year respectively, Garfield School District expects the state will approve the change for them as well.
