Cross Country

DOCTOR CREEK, FISHLAKE, UT- On Monday, Sept 9, the high school boys went to a cross-country meet in Huntington. Blake Peterson, a junior, got 2nd in the meet; let’s see what he thought about it. To know Peterson a little better, he loves sports and video games. He said the boys took 2nd in the meet. The race was 3.1 miles long. During the meet he said he felt “pretty good but tired.” Overall, he was happy with his performance.

Coach Wes Torgrimson (Bro T) has been a cross-country coach for four years, and he loves running. He was asked if he thought Huntington was a hard race, he replied “No, it is one of our shortest races and most of the boys got better times.” Overall, he was proud of his boys’ performance.

On Thur, Sept 12, the cross-country had their home meet at Fishlake. The high school boys continue to rack up more first-place trophies. Peterson came in first, and Treason Brown in 2nd, closely followed by Brayden Lee in 4th.

The middle school boys got 3rd. Slade Taylor got 3rd, and Liam Revoir, a sixth-grader, got 10th. The middle school girls got another 2nd place with Kamrie Peterson in 2nd, Cambria Torgrimson in 3rd, and Alaina Grundy in 6th.

Baseball

WAYNE HIGH SCHOOL, UT- On Wed, Sept 11, Wayne hit the road headed to Bryce Valley for their 4th match-up of the season. Wayne fought hard in the first inning, keeping the Mustangs lead down to only three runs, but in the second inning, disaster struck. The Mustangs held the

Badgers and then went on to score 13 runs, bumping their lead up to 16. After that, all the Mustangs had to do was hold the Badgers through the 4th. They were able to hold them, and they scored three more runs in the third; the final score 19-0 Mustangs. Blake Peterson, Rigg Brinkerhoff, and Russell VanDyke all hit a single, and Russell had one stolen base.

On Fri, Sept 13, Wayne was facing off against Piute on home turf; Wayne lost 12-2. Coach Jaden Ellett was asked, “How has your first year as head coach been?” “It’s been good; the parents are nice, the players are nice, and the coaches are nice.”

It was a tough week for Badger baseball. Miles Hinkle (second base) believes that the way to move forward after a week like this is “through working hard at practice.” He claims that he has no superstitions before games, maybe it’s time to get some.

Volleyball

WAYNE HIGH SCHOOL- Oaklee Brian shines as the Badgers begin volleyball season. She is enjoying the start of the season. She liked playing the position of middle her freshman year, but she really loves to play anywhere she is needed, and she’s come to love playing opposite. She thinks that everyone on the varsity team serves really well. On Tue, Sept 10, the Badgers played Bryce Valley and won in three sets. They also played a home game against Milford on September 11. Freshmen won all their sets, and so did JV, Varsity lost though.

Chloe Stewart, a junior from Wayne High School, is a key player for the Wayne Badgers. Her favorite spot to play is outside because she gets to hit and block. She thinks, “Teamwork is considered essential for success in the sport because it’s a team sport.” All the players are meant to serve a purpose so they can accomplish the sport. She also thinks that everyone serves in a different way and they can always improve.
