Updated: Clear Creek Fire Burns in Sevier County

A fire in Clear Creek near Fremont Indian State Park in Sevier County continues to burn June 12 after its start the day before.

The Clear Creek fire began at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11. Crews were estimating they might have the fire contained by the end of the day Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, however, Utah Fire Info reported that “strong down-canyon winds pushed the fire to an estimated 50 acres.”

Later, 30 mph wind led to some flare ups, but no new growth or containment was reported. Two hand crews and two helicopters were on scene Wednesday morning, but steep, rocky terrain was making access difficult. Federal and local resources were also providing assistance.

Utah Fire Info indicated that travel along I-70 might be impacted.

Power was affected in parts of Sevier and Marysvale Tuesday, but it was restored before the evening.

Thursday it was determined the fire was started by a brake drum that had separated and left hot pieces along the roadway. At 10:30 a.m., the fire was at 50% containment with a revised area of 20 steep and rugged acres.
