George Washington portrait painting.

Sixty-four years ago as a foolish youth I had my first political involvement. It was on Halloween night and a time that I am not particularly proud of. I learned a lesson that night which was, “Just because you have strong feelings about a particular issue or candidate it does not give you the right to assume that others are in the wrong.” In fact it may mean that you should take your inclinations into a deep search and consider why you feel this way and who might be more correct than you are.

In a booklet published in 1861 by Charles Wesley Alexander entitled “Washington’s Vision,” he relates a story that was often told by an old soldier of a vision attributed to George Washington. This story is considered to be fiction, but many believe it to be real as George Washington often went into the thicket to pray in secret, for aid from God, while guiding his troops during the Revolutionary War. We know that many miracles were the result of Washington’s prayers.

The booklet stated, and I quote, “One day, I remember it well, when the chilly winds whistled through the leafless trees, though the sky was cloudless and the sun shone brightly, he (Washington) remained in his quarters nearly all the afternoon alone. When he came out, I noticed that his face was a shade paler than usual. … After a preliminary conversation of about an hour, Washington, gazing upon his companion with that strange look of dignity which he alone commanded, related the event that occurred that day.”

Washington told of a vision he had seen where a heavenly visitor said to him three times “Son of the Republic, look and learn,” during this vision he beheld all of America and three great “woes” or “wars” that would come upon American soil. The first was the Revolutionary War which he was then fighting, the second the Civil War which started the same time the booklet was printed, and another great war which is yet to come. America prevailed in all three wars, though the cost was great.

Is this a work of fiction or a true prophecy? I do not know, but I do know that America is in an extremely precarious position with wars raging across the globe which we are helping to finance and even sending some our national guard troops to fight.

Are we prepared to face war or any of the other of the endless challenges to our country at this time?

I do believe that we are in over our heads and we desperately need help to save our state and our nation. I recently spent an anxious night and woke up with a pit in my stomach wondering what I could do to help save America. I called a friend to see if I could do anything to help our country. It appears that we had both had a similar night and he suggested a plan that we are implementing.

We know that it is only God who can save us and if we serve him he will fight our battles for us. We decided that we would fast and pray for God’s help. We also decided that we would ask others to join us. He said, “Tell ten people to tell ten people to tell ten people.” We hoped this chain would get many people to join us. The first Sunday in March, or March 3, we will be fasting and praying. Our prayer will not be for any political party or candidate but that “we can have fair and honest elections”; that we may elect candidates that “love America” and ”will be true to the people of America as well as honest in their decisions.”

Please join us and tell ten people, to tell ten people, to tell ten people. We must turn to God if we are to save America. He is our only hope.
