(August 28, 2023) — On January 8, 2023, at approximately 9:57 P.M. the Piute County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call on Doc Springs Road, approximately four (4) miles North of Circleville, in Piute County, State of Utah. At approximately 10:12 P.M., Piute County Sheriff Marty Gleave located a 16-year-old female fatally shot in the head, lying in the middle of a dirt road.
Today, Francisco Daniel Aguilar was sentenced to 25 years to life to be served at the Utah State Prison for Aggravated Murder, a non-Capital Felony; a non-Capital offense because the Defendant was 17 years old at the time of the commission of the offense and the Piute County Attorney’s Office was precluded from seeking the death penalty.
Sheriff Marty Gleave stated, “Justice was done today in our county — for Jacky’s family (the victim of this murder), for Makall (the second victim who the defendant shot at as she was trying to save Jacky), and for our community. Sheriff Gleave praised the members of his office, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and all personnel who responded immediately upon being asked to help, and to everyone who has supported Jacky’s family and Makall’s family throughout this nightmare.” Scott Burns, the Piute County Attorney, stated “the support provided to the victims of this terrible crime has been outstanding, and the investigative work of Piute County Sheriff Marty Gleave and his deputies and staff — as well as the assistance from Sheriff Nate Curtis and his people from Sevier County and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, could not have been better. This has been an emotional case for this little county, and for all of the surrounding counties, as this 16 year old girl was an athlete, a student, a friend and a sister and daughter who was loved by so many.”
Francisco Daniel Aguilar is being held in the Sevier County Jail pending his transport to the Utah State Prison.
