High school can be described as the “time of your life.” It is full of extracurricular activities, games, dances and more. One of these extracurricular activities that is most looked forward to is the Prom. The one night where girls get to dress up in big poofy dresses that they’ve dreamed about since they were young, and the night where boys get the chance to ask out the girl of their dreams. Piute’s “Enchanted” Junior Prom took place on Friday, March 24, in the Piute High School gym. As the song “A Night to Remember” from High School Musical 3 states, “Been waiting all our lives for this, It’s going to be a night to remember.” And it really was.
The theme for Piute’s Junior Prom this year was “Enchanted.” Their promenade dance was to Taylor Swift’s song “Enchanted.” The ongoing tradition for Prom at Piute is that the Juniors set up prom mostly by themselves, with some help from parents and some faculty members. Piute’s graduating class of 2024 decorated Piute’s “old” gym with the famous green parachute that sets the foundation for a portal into a new dimension, black curtains to contain the dimension, and warm-toned, stringed fairy lights that hung from all over. For personal customization, the class gathered tree stumps, willow branches for an arch, a porch swing that the 4th hour welding class made, a chuppah archway, a sting light chandelier, and a curtained walkway for the boys and girls to meet at and then make their way to show the crowd their style for the night.
Another tradition that the junior class always does for the Prom is showcase a promenade dance. Not all juniors have to participate, but the more the merrier. This year’s promenade was choreographed by Carrie Davis, one of the dance company’s instructors. The song, as mentioned earlier, was “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift. The dance is performed twice; the second time around the juniors swap places so that those in the back can dance in the front. This way the audience can see everyone. On the second time of the dance, the juniors pulled out some sunglasses and the girls dipped and did a lift with their dates instead of the ones being dipped and lifted.
After the promenade it was time to announce the Prom royalty. This year’s prince and princess were Josh Bowels and Angel Houtz. For the king and queen, Cooper Springer and Emma Wilde took the crowns.
Overall the Junior Prom was a hit for the junior class of 2024 and all who attended. The magical night was spent dancing and having fun with friends and family.
