TROPIC, Utah (March 10, 2023) — Region speech and debate took place on Thursday and Friday, March 9-10 in Tropic, Utah. Only two schools participated in the region tournament: Bryce Valley and Panguitch.
The competition includes seven categories of different types of speech and debate. Both teams have spent the past few weeks preparing late into the evenings to get their speeches, topics, and arguments written and memorized. During these weeks, it wasn’t unusual to see students walking through the school halls at 7:00 p.m. mumbling to themselves (we assure you there was probably a good reason for it).
Finally the crazy weeks of memorization and mumbling paid off!
This year’s competition was extremely tight, with a medal count of 13 for Bryce Valley and 11 for Panguitch. Points-wise, Panguitch won the region trophy with a total of 105 points. Bryce Valley was 26 points behind, with 79.
