MOAB, Utah — After months of violent threats, an outspoken Moab conservationist was charged Monday following the discovery of drugs and numerous guns ready to use inside his house.
The accused, 39-year-old Christian Langdon Wright, is a former boatman and park ranger at Moab and an outspoken conservationist on topics of noise pollution, specifically targeting ATVs.
Police began investigation last June when Grand County Attorney Christina Sloan reported Wright’s graphic threats in a Facebook message to her.
It wasn’t until February 17 that police were able to serve a search warrant at Wright’s home. He was then arrested for investigation of criminal solicitation, criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, as well as three drug-related crimes, including drug possession with intent to distribute.
The extensive charges outlined the items Wright was keeping in his home:
Police found “containers of Gorilla super glue with stickers; 1,100 ‘DEAD TOURISTS DONT RENT UTVs’ stickers; five loaded AR-15 style rifles with scopes; drug paraphernalia; eight packages of THC gummies; digital scale, empty capsules, an inactive mushroom grow with cover, humidifier, and high-grade soil; three Mason jars filled with psilocybin mushrooms; … a shotgun, three rifles with scopes; numerous magazines; and cans of various calibers of ammunition. The weapons found were loaded and were staged throughout the home.”
Wright’s girlfriend told police that he “told her he purchased weapons in case of a ‘governmental fail’ or apocalyptical scenario,” the charges stated.
Similarly Wright told police “he bought five the AR-15s to protect himself from those who may try to harm him, and if he had to defend democracy. These weapons were staged throughout his home because he was concerned about being assassinated,” the charges stated.
Overall Wright faces 14 criminal charges ranging from a class B misdemeanor to second-degree felony.
