This is an old news article. The events in this article happened in Panguitch in February 2023.
February is a short month; thus, the Panguitch Posts this month will be short on news!
Wonderful Snow
The big news, of course, is all the snow we have received this month. Hasn’t it been wonderful? Prayers have been answered in a big way, and if the weather forecast is correct, more storms will be coming!
Although the weather has made travel difficult for many of us, we should feel blessed to live where we do with more wide open spaces and places to push the snow out of the way to make travel and getting from place to place more manageable. Some of the areas back east, and even in the northern part of our state, are socked in and some have been unable to even leave their homes.
Slippery Mishaps
We have a couple of people in town who have met with unfortunate accidents this month. Kelly Lee slipped on the ice while walking her son’s dog and broke her leg. She has had surgery to repair the lower part of her leg and will be laid up for some time while the healing takes place. She and Wally have set up temporary residence at Wally’s Grandma Lee’s which has no stairs. He is her chief caretaker now that Kelly’s sister has returned to her home after providing wonderful care for several days.
Pam and Vern Robison were disembarking the ship they had just returned from on a cruise when Pam slipped coming down the gangway and broke her ankle. This made for a difficult return-home trip trying to maneuver through airports and finally returning back to the comforts of home. Pam is now recovering and tired of sitting at home.
We wish both of these special ladies quick recoveries! Give them a call or stop in for a visit!
Mission Calls
We have three newly-called missionaries in town that will be leaving for their areas of service in the next few months. Elise Sarles received her call to serve up in Washington State; her twin brother, Gabriel, has been called to serve in Australia; and Ella Hughes has been called to serve in the Philippines. All three of these young people will be super missionaries. We are proud of them and wish them success in their individual missions. Thank you for serving!
Sports and School Events
The eighth grade girls basketball season ended after playing games most Saturdays in January and early February. Milford came out as the champion team defeating Valley in the tournament. Our Panguitch team showed lots of improvement as the season progressed and will be ready for games this next school year when they move into high school competition. I did not hear how the 6th grade team came out, but I saw some of their season games and they will be a team to be reckoned with next year!
I would like to offer a challenge to our PHS student body! I have really missed singing our school song this year at the ball games! The words used to be hanging in the gym but have been taken down probably when remodeling was being done. I would like to encourage the kids to learn the words — the correct words — and then hope the cheerleaders will lead us in singing it at the games next year. I believe it would really add to our school spirit and unite our community with the school. LET’S DO IT!
Upcoming school events for March are region debate, which will be held in Bryce Valley on March 9-10; state debate will take place on March 17-18 at Ben Lomond High School (Ogden); state FCCLA will be held March 21-22 probably in Salt Lake, and rodeo competition will be held in Ogden on March 31.
Ward Activities
The 1st Ward Relief Society birthday celebration will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the stake center. I’m sure the 2nd and 3rd wards will be having their celebration around the same time in March as well.
Don’t forget daylight saving time will kick in on March 12. “Spring” your clocks ahead one hour early that morning!
Please let me know if you have news to put in this column. We all love to hear noteworthy Panguitch news that takes place in families as well as with individuals and their accomplishments.
That’s all folks! Enjoy your March!
