Meet the Mustangs: theater kids, cheerleaders, baseball players, basketball girls, student council, and volleyball players.

TROPIC, Utah — Bryce Valley’s “Meet the Mustangs” event happened on Friday, January 20, at BVHS. Here, the Mustangs were met with high enthusiasm and applause as they introduced themselves to a crowd of parents, siblings, and community members.

The event began as the student council introduced their goals for this year. These goals included inclusivity and continued unity in the small school, under an overarching theme of “unstoppable.”

The program continued by highlighting the classes — 7th-12th — clubs, sports, community members, and other extracurriculars that all played a role in helping students succeed.

Bryce Valley’s clubs and sports have grown a lot in the past few years. Many of the clubs are quite new and still continuing to grow. These included FCCLA, choir, book club, FBLA, theater, debate, Spanish club, FFA, yearbook, hope squad, and cyber corp.

The only new sport added within the past 10 years at Bryce Valley was golf, but that has not stopped the Mustangs from growing their teams and strengthening their resolve in sports. Their sports included volleyball, cross country, boys basketball, wrestling, baseball, girls basketball, track and field, boys and girls golf, and cheer.

Honoring the Community

Along with the high schoolers, many community members were honored for helping strengthen students all along the way.

The first of these community honors went to Britnee and Sharlene Littlefield. Britnee and Sharlene probably have not missed a home basketball game in over 15 years. They are always there in their reserved seats through the rain or snow, at volleyball, baseball and basketball games. They were honored as the 2023 Bryce Valley Superfans!

Another member of the community Bryce Valley wished to honor was Stan Mecham. Stan was the custodian at Bryce Valley for many years, “a pillar of our community,” and a forever Mustang. His yearbook pictures showed him playing baseball, working with other community members and just loving being BV’s custodian.

Other honors went to parents of the high school seniors, the sterling scholars, and the homecoming royalty. Bryce Valley was excited to help the community meet each of the Mustangs and see the many things they are doing with their unique talents.
