Two schools, senior night, one of the big rivalries of the region. … What a perfect day for a baseball game. The rivalry between Piute and Panguitch is well known throughout Region 20. When these two play against each other, it is bound to be a good game, no matter what sport.
September 16, 2022, a baseball game between the schools took place at Piute High School. It was Piute’s last home game, so it was the senior night for Piute. A hot, sunny, yet mildly cloudy day was set up for the baseball teams. Piute fans dressed in blue, in honor of the seniors’ last game. Piute’s volleyball team unified in wearing the baseball boys’ blue away-jerseys. The T-birds fan section rooted the team on as the game began.
Brooks Dalton was the pitcher for the T-birds at the top of the first inning. Unfortunately for the T-birds, Klyn Fullmer hit a home run, starting the Bobcats off with a bang. The momentum from this stupendous hit gave Panguitch the leading score of 5 to 0 for the rest of the game! This is the second time the Bobcats have beat the T-Birds this season. Yet, the rivalry this year is still stronger than ever and spectators will continue to see it in the state tournament.
But the seniors will always remember this game by senior night. Piute’s cheerleaders started the game with the presentation of the flag and followed Coach Travas Blood’s remarks on the seniors of Piute High School. Daxon Morrill, Jesse James, Okley Sylvester, Titan King, Brooks Dalton, and McKray Gayler were presented with gifts from the cheerleaders and their mothers. Panguitch baseball seniors also received gifts from the cheerleaders.
The baseball seniors of Piute will be greatly missed, but as Coach Travas Blood stated before the first inning, “We will miss them, but we aren’t done yet.” We’re excited to see what the seniors do with the rest of their last season.
