This is an old news article. The events in this article happened in Panguitch in June 2022.
My word! This year summer has literally “blown in” with a vengeance. Do you remember when the wind has blown with relentless force for literally 3-4 days in a row? We know wind here, but for it to blow pretty consistently day and night for that long has been especially hard to cope with. Most every day there is a new bunch of broken limbs and branches scattered across the lawns that need to be raked up and disposed of. Wind zaps energy and motivation, but I guess the hay dries in record time!
We are so desperately in need of moisture. We all need to try to conserve water and be wise in our usage. Hopefully our prayers will soon be answered in the way of some good rains that usually (most years, anyway) materialize in the next few weeks.
Ruth Owens-White recently passed away at the age of 88. Her funeral service was held on Saturday, June 25, in the Stake Center. She is survived by brother Bill (Marion) Frandsen and children Eddie (Beannie), Jerry (Jeannie), Sherrie (Sherl), and Ashley. Ruth was always neat and stylish in her dress and her hair was always beautifully done. She loved her growing family and was a fantastic cook and artist.
Kyler Bennett just graduated from high school and a few days later was off to his basic National Guard training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He will be stationed there for several weeks. Good luck to Kyler!
Jaron Miller also recently graduated from high school and received his mission call to the New York Syracuse mission. He will leave for the MTC on September 19. Paxton Wolfley is called to the Trinidad Port of Spain and will leave July 25. Thomas Marshall will soon leave for his mission to the Dominican Republic.* We are so proud of our young people and the goals they have set for themselves.
By the time you read this article the Panguitch Balloon Festival will be over and just a good memory.
There are always lots of high school and family reunions and we will hope to get a report on these for the next issue of the paper. Hopefully everyone had a fun and safe time!
There have been lots of baseball games and tournaments going on with many out-of-town teams coming to our awesome ballpark for playing experience. Our girls basketball team had their camp in St. George last week and the boys were there this week. Things are looking good for both teams. The wrestlers also had a camp in Salina earlier in the month.
With summer here, it is a good time to go on some family hikes in our beautiful surroundings. Of course, there is Spooky Gulch and Peekaboo along with Willis Creek which are all lots of fun and even quite challenging. A new one some of our family members and several of the 2nd Ward Young Women took this past week is called Bullion Falls and is located just outside of Marysvale. It was a beautiful hike mostly uphill on the way up to the falls and, of course, mostly downhill on the way back down. Go ahead, take a hike!
Most of the wards in the area will have already had their Young Women camps by the end of June. All reports I have heard say that the camps were fun, relaxing, spiritual and exciting! Thank heaven for wonderful leaders who put in time to plan, prepare and attend these camps that really have lasting effects on the Young Women! Thank you, leaders, and thank you, girls for making the effort to attend.
The 4th of July is right around the corner. Take in the kids parade at 10:00 with races and activities throughout the day. I haven’t heard yet if there will be fireworks, but I would bet there will be some at the old rodeo grounds on the north end of town with the firemen in charge!
Just a heads up for the 24th of July day of activities: the speaker for the annual DUP program will be Kay Richards, a former Panguitch resident who seldom misses any event or occasion where Panguitch people, young and old, are involved. The program is held after the parade at the Stake Center and all are invited to attend!
I should mention that PHS alumnus Stacee Yardley McIff was recently named the interim president of Snow College assuming that role the 1st of July when President Cook will take a new position out of the country. Needless to say, Stacee is humbled and honored for the confidence the Board of Trustees and the Board of Education has placed in her to offer her this position while they search for the next president. Congratulations, Stacee!
Be safe and have an adventurous summer!
