The State Basketball Championships were held on Saturday, March 5th. Piute High School ended the season with not just one championship title, but two! The girls team beat Tabiona 38-30 and the boys team beat Panguitch, who was the defending state champion, with a score of 49-42.
The Piute girls team not only ended the season with the championship, but they also broke their school record for the most wins in a season, with 25. Not only did they have an amazing season, but bringing home a win at the state championships meant that they are back-to-back title holders.
The MVP for the girls state championship was Tera M., a junior from Piute High School. She had 24 points and helped lead her team to victory. We’ll hand the play of the game, however, to Kassidy W., who successfully launched a three-quarter-court shot for three points.
The Piute boys team also had a very successful season. Having lost to Panguitch twice before, Piute came out hard and left everything on the court as they led their school to the state title of the night. The MVP for the boys state championship was Brooks D. He would help lead his team to the first basketball championship for the boys since 1996.
Both teams played and represented their schools and communities very well at the championships. We are so proud of Piute and are excited to see what happens next year.
