Intermountain Opens Surgery Center-St. George

Featuring Unique Overnight Patient Recovery Suites

Intermountain Healthcare cut the ribbon for a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in St. George to kick-off St. George Regional Hospital’s Health Fair on Saturday, September 17 at 6 p.m. Attendees visited the new center and enjoyed other health fair offerings, including National Dance Day entertainment and participation.

The center will be known as Intermountain Surgery Center – St. George and will offer same-day urology and orthopedic surgeries in four specialized operating rooms. Most patients will return home shortly after surgery, where they can continue their recovery.

The Intermountain Surgery Center – St. George will also include diagnostic and preventive procedures outside of the traditional hospital setting — making it more convenient for patients as well as more affordable, while maintaining high-quality surgical outcomes.

“I’m excited to work in a facility that will be streamlined with the latest technology and designed for specific surgeries,” said Dr. Jordan Ash, anesthesiologist and medical director for the ASC. “This will also help lower the cost for some of our most common orthopedic surgeries.

Ambulatory surgery centers specialize in a specific set of procedures, allowing for greater efficiencies which lower cost while providing high-quality outcomes. For many patients, cost is their biggest worry, even when they have insurance.

“We know the cost of care is high and this new facility will be a major step in making it more affordable,” said Dr. Zachary Leitze. “This facility can potentially reduce the cost of surgery by 20 to 50 percent for common orthopedic procedures.”

Intermountain is adding ASCs across their system. Similar facilities have been developed or are under development in Murray, Logan, Park City, Provo, Saratoga Springs and Ogden, and several more are planned.
